Individuals Stopping Slimming Jabs Gain Back Weight Four Times Faster Compared to Dieters

Weight management involves long-term strategies.

A recent study indicates that people who come off new weight-loss injections like Wegovy and Mounjaro tend to recover reduced body mass much more quickly than those who stop conventional lifestyle regimens.

Published data in a major medical journal shows that while overweight individuals often shed substantial amounts of their body weight while undergoing treatment, the mass comes back at an average rate of 0.8 kg per month after stopping.

"Users purchasing these treatments need to be cognizant of the risk of fast weight regain when the therapy concludes," cautioned expert Dr. Susan Jebb.

Such speed of regain implies a return to starting weight within about one and a half years.

Weighing Therapies

The analysis, which examined 37 of studies involving over 9,000 of participants, compared the outcomes of these new drugs with other pills.

Scientists point out that people who lose weight through lifestyle changes alone usually have a less rapid creep back—approximately 0.1 kg a month—once they finish.

Explaining the Quick Regain

Nutrition scientists propose the mechanism of the jabs is key to understanding the amplified regain.

These medications copy a body's own chemical called GLP-1, which moderates hunger.

"Artificially providing GLP-1 concentrations far above than normal may cause the body to generate a reduced amount of its own natural GLP-1, and may also diminish sensitivity to its effects," noted Dr. Adam Collins, a dietetics specialist.

"Withdrawal of this GLP-1 'fix' leads to hunger is unsuppressed, making excessive eating far more likely."

A Chronic Issue?

Health authorities advise the jabs for people with weight-linked health risks, alongside prescribed diet and exercise modifications.

Professionals say that, considering the significant potential of weight regain, the therapy might need to be life-long.

This view is supported by drug manufacturers, who say that the findings "underscore the persistent character of obesity," comparing it to managing conditions like high blood pressure.

User Accounts

People who have discontinued the jabs report a powerful resurgence of cravings.

"I experienced a switch activating and I was suddenly extremely hungry," described an individual.

This difficulty is exacerbated if patients have not developed lasting lifestyle or habit changes during treatment.

Growing Adoption

Figures suggest that millions of people in the UK have tried weight-loss jabs in the past year, with desire being substantial.

  • Adoption is higher among women than males.
  • The middle-aged age group shows the greatest level of interest.
  • A large proportion access the drugs through private prescriptions rather than public health services.

In conclusion, clinicians emphasize that while these medications are powerful agents for shedding pounds, they are not a magic fix and maintained weight loss likely depends on integrated behavioural management.
